THIS IS ME
Sally Jacobs is an emerging musical theatre singer, actor, experienced gymnast and mover. Growing up, she trained in commercial jazz, lyrical, classical ballet, gymnastics and singing before studying full-time performing arts and commercial dance at Davidia Lind Dance Centre. Additional training beyond her full-time education has included the QUT Musical Theatre Summer School (Ross Coleman, Simon Galleghar, Nancye Hayes, Anne Wood), Five Day West End & Broadway Experience (Simone Sault, Paul Tabone, Michael McCormick, Ian White, Guy Simpson, Sharon Millerchip), Screen Essentials (Imperfect Creatives) and Commercial/Broadway Jazz Classes (Michael Hughes, VHUB). Sally also regularly works 1:1 with her vocal coach on a weekly to fortnightly basis (Jeremy Powell NYC, Ian Nisbet AUS).
Inspired as a child by old black & white movies of Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly and Shirley Temple, Sally found her love of performing through eisteddfods and concerts initially, before stepping into her first professional stage production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat (QPAC) at the age of fifteen. Sally then went on to be cast in the Goodwill Games Opening Ceremony and Man from Snowy River Arena Spectacular as part of the dance ensemble, working with industry creatives and performing at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre alongside Keith Urban, Vanessa Amorossi, Bardot, Lee Kernighan, Georgie Parker, Steve Bisley and Bud Tingwell.
While at her core, Sally is a passionate creative & storyteller, as a young performer, Sally struggled with perfectionism, comparison, self-esteem and negative body image... something which sadly isn't uncommon amongst athletes and performers. Over time, she developed significant social anxiety, depression and anorexia which eventually impacted not only Sally's mental and physical health, but her ability to continue pursuing her goals as a performer. After a very lengthy battle and journey to recovery, in 2021, Sally returned to singing where she worked with her vocal coach to rebuild her technique and confidence and in 2022, was cast as Elle's mum and Courtney in Sunnybank Theatre Group's production of Legally Blonde: The Musical. Since then, Sally has been cast in the hero role for the UniSQ Go Beyond Campaign (TVC, Social Media, Print) and most recently, made her professional theatre debut as Dr Panther in the original musical theatre showreel event, Edgetown.
FROM ADVERSITY COMES STRENGTH
"From performing in front of an audience of thousands to making a comeback after overcoming adversity, the journey back to who I am today has truly been a reflection of hard work, determination, resilience, passion... and the recognition that you are never too old to go after your dreams"
Sally Jacobs

"I've learnt over the years that you can't just sit back and wait for life to hand you opportunities. Sometimes, you have to follow your heart and create your own destiny."
